Improving Your Personal Appearance

How much time do you put into the way you look every day? While this number is different for everyone, investing some time into your appearance can really help you to go out into the world more confidently and feel better about yourself. I started going to spas and salons a few months back, and it was really nifty to see how many services they offered that could really improve my life. I decided that it would be incredible to work with other people to teach them about spas and salons, since they can make you feel renewed and refreshed.

Drug Store Upgrade? Ask These Questions Before Choosing Aveda Or Other Salon Hair Care Products

Lena Griffin

Do you need to upgrade your hair care routine and try something other than your usual drugstore shampoo, conditioner, and styling gel or cream? If Aveda and other similar salon products are on your must-try list, take a look at the questions to ask before you invest in a new cleansing, treatment, or other product.

Do You Want A Plant-Based Hair Care Line?

What ingredients are important to you? Plant-based, or vegan, hair care is typically cruelty-free and gentle in the hair or scalp. While vegan products vary by brand, many of these hair care options can reduce the dryness, frizz, and breakage that chemical-packed shampoos, conditioners, and gels or creams can cause. Not only are vegan products good for your hair, but they're also good for the planet too.

What Are Your Hair Concerns?

You've chosen a line, such as Aveda hair products, that offers vegan or plant-based choices. While this is the first step in the decision-making process, it isn't the only one. Now that you have a general idea of what you want, it's time to get specific and address your individual hair care concerns.

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends the use of shampoo and conditioner products formulated to address specific hair type needs. These needs or concerns could include your overall hair texture, frizz, breakage, color-treated tresses, oily hair or scalp, dry hair or scalp, split ends, hair loss/thinning, or dandruff.

What Types of Products Do You Need?

You don't necessarily need every hair care product on the market. Start with the basics—cleansing and conditioning. Again, these products should match and address your hair care concerns. If you have oily hair, you won't want a moisturizing shampoo and heavy conditioner. But if your hair is dry or frizzy, explore hydrating options.

Along with the basics (shampoo and conditioner), you may also need daily or weekly treatment options and styling products. Like cleansers and conditioners, these products should work for your hair type. Creams, gels, sprays, and other styling selections may also help to moisturize or treat some hair care issues.

Before you select styling products, consider how and when you will use them. If you only style your hair in the morning or before a night out, you will need a long-lasting product. You may also need a combination of styling products to address different needs—such as a cream to hydrate and define your curls, a mid-day rejuvenating spray or gel, and another product to add shine or longer-lasting hold.
